[INTERVIEW] Fagan

Here is the first interview of 2011 , and I must say that i'm very proud of it
I know this band for 3 years now and i was really glad to ask them some questions
I'd like to thank them for the interest they showed to this interview and for being always so nice
I hope that this interview will make you want to discover this band

thank you so much to Liam , Ashley, Lee and Sean

1) You all meet in 2008, where did you meet ?

We all actually went to the same school but weren’t friends, other
than Liam and Ashley, who wanted to get a band together. Ashley met Lee in a pub called ‘The Rocking Horse’ which was renouned for its live music. After a few months of playing as a 4 piece with our ex drummer, unfortunatley things weren’t working out with him so Lee recruited Sean after finding him on Myspace. After our first practice with Sean we knew this was the right line up for Fagan!

2) Where does the name of the band come from ?

Liam’s favourite movie when he was younger was ‘Oliver Twist’ apparently he wanted to be just like the Artful Dodger! Fagin was one of the characters from the movie, so we used that but changed the ‘i’ to an ‘a’ to make it Fagan, to be more original.

3) Who write the songs ?

Liam will write the lyrics and the basic melody with his acoustic
guitar, then Lee will use this to put his stamp and the Fagan sound to the songs. Then in practice Ashley and Sean improvise and bring depth to the songs.

4) What inspires you musically speaking ?

We are all varied in our influences, which gives us our own unique
sound. Liam’s main influences are singer/songwriter type acts, and british indie bands such as Oasis, Coldplay & The Arctic Monkeys. Lee used to listen to alot of 90′s indie bands, especially Blur and was also into punk rock bands during secondary school. Sean was pretty much influenced by similar music to Lee, and Ashley is influenced by Eliza Doolittle, because he thinks she’s hot.

5) Who’s your favourite artist ? ( musician / singer)

The Beatles are a band we are all influenced from, Stone Roses,
Crowded House, Blur, Oasis, Coldplay, The Kooks, Arctic Monkeys, The Script, are all other acts we admire.

6) Why did you call your album “two worlds so far apart” , is there a particular reason ?

‘Two Worlds So Far Apart’ is a lyric from one of the songs on the
album called ‘Lazy’. The meaning behind it is that, at this time, we
are a world apart from where we would love to be (WEMBLEY!!)  and making a full time successful career from our music.

7) You played in different venues , small and big, which do you like the most ?

Playing in a smaller venue can be alot more intimate, when you can feel the crowds focus and appreciation of your music. Playing in a bigger venue is always fun if the crowd is large and the sound is good. We enjoy both if the atmosphere at the gig is great.

8 ) You’ve played in other country like Holland and Germany, Did you enjoy playing outside de UK ?

Yeah it was a great experience, taking our music to different
countries and seeing the reaction from the people there. It was also good to get to see the sights of different places we have never been before, inbetween the gigs.

9) You did a very good cover of ” Umbrella” by Rihanna do you play this cover on stage ?

We used to play this song alot more when it was in the charts, but now we play different covers that are more recent in the charts. Being an original band we concentrate on writing our own songs, but covers are fun to learn.

10) What’s your best memory on tour ?

There are probably too many to remember but one particular moment is when we were on our way to a gig in Barnsley (6 hour drive) Lee hooked a cable tie onto Ashleys wrist and pulled it  tight, he went crazy and couldn’t get it off, while we were all just laughing at him. His hand started to turn blue.

11) What’s the first gig you went ?

Liam saw Oasis at the Milton Keynes bowl, Lee watched Green Day at Wembley. Sean went to Wembley also to see Muse, and Ashley watched Peter Andre at Radio 1 roadshow in Clacton on sea.

12) Do you have plans for other european gigs ? a date in Paris ?

Hopefully! we dont have any booked yet, but we will in the near future.

13) What’s your favourite album ?

Whats The Story (Morning Glory) Oasis

14) What was the last song you couldnt get out your head ?

Liam and Ashley always seem to be singing a different Tinie Tempah song every week!

15) If you could choose anybody, to come on stage with you, who would it be ?

Paul McCartney – One of the greatest muscians in the world, it would be an honour!

16) What’s next for 2011 ?

Promoting the album, which is out to buy now. Radio interviews and spreading our name as far and wide as possible.
