[Interview] JACK MOORE

For the 10th interview in this blog, I decided to ask some questions to Jack Moore. I'd like to thank him for the interest he showed to this interview.
In this interview he talks about his bands Young Electrics and Gypsy and The Wolf , but also about his own career as a guitarist. I hope it will make you want to discover this musician by listening to his songs .

YOUNG ELECTRICS

1) First of all, can you introduce the band  ?

The band YE consists of tommy Doyle the singer, me on guitar, Ed on bass and Felix on drums

2) Were you in different bands before Young Electrics? Where did you all meet ?

Tommy and i had been in a band called shotgun eddie which split, Felix the laser crabs and Ed WDA

3) When did you decide to form a band ?

After shotgun Eddie split it was just a matter of finding the right body for the band and Felix and Ed were a great fit for what we were doing.

4) Do you write the songs all together ?

The way we started out was I would write guitar riffs and Tommy would come up with the vocs and melody but as we got to know each other better musically the other two became more involved in the writing process.

5) What inspires you musically speaking ?

For me anything and everything really, I know the guys all have different musical backgrounds, but that kinda made things more interesting.
The more you explore each others styles the more you understand the way each other works which I guess is conducive to better writing.

6) How would you describe your music ?

It's a blend of a few things really, we're still developing our sound. One minute it could be indie rock and then break into reggae.
I hate saying indie it's such a kop out.
I guess we'll just let people make their own minds up what we are.

7) When do you think your first single / EP will be released ?

We are looking to get a few more songs recorded over the next month, and there's been talk of an EP.

8) Do you have plans for a tour ?

As soon as we get the songs recorded we'll be booking more dates. At the moment we have only one gig lined up at the Green Door Store in Brighton so look out for that.

GATW

9) You're also in the band "Gypsy And The Wolf ", how did you meet Adam and Matt ?

I met Matt after he played an open mic set. I thought he had an interesting style. He's great at all the finger-picking stuff. Adam I met through Matt when they formed GATW

10) Can you tell us more about the song Maverick ?( see the last article of this blog - free download)

Matt, Adam and I were all involved in the writing process. It was the first time I'd really sat down and played with them so it was a really organic process. We really clicked and the song came together real fast. It had a Spanish feel from the start so we pursued that, and I think it makes the song really unique. We're proud of it.

YOU

11) When did you start playing guitar ?

I picked up guitar when I was around 15. I had a few friends at school who were doing the same so the competition was pretty strong!

12) What was the first gig you played ? what memory do you have ?

You know what I can't even remember the first gig I did. Might have been with Shotgun Eddie, or maybe Otis Taylor who knows.

13) What was the first album you bought ?

I'd like to say the first album I bought was something cool like Zeppelin or Hendrix but it was probably something like Jamiroquai.
That's still cool right? Ha

14) You played a festival with your dad ( famous guitarist) Gary Moore at the age of 19.  What memory do you have ?

I remember playing the festival as quite a surreal experience. I hadn't played in front of more than like 500 people and suddenly I was stepping out in front of 20,000. I was nervous but it sent by in a flash. It was fantastic though, something I'll never forget.

15) Last summer , you played with Joe Bonamassa and Deep Purple at The Royal Albert Hall, can you tell us more about this collaboration and how did you feel when you played in this famous venue ?

I had met the co creator of the Sunflower Jam, Jackie Paice a few months prior to the gig and she kindly invited me to play. I was supposed to do one song with Joe but I talked to him before and he asked me to do the whole set, so that's how that came about.
At the end with Deep Purple it was kinda just a jam out of Smoke on the water and everyone got involved.
It was an honour playing with such great musicians though.

16) What's next for you ? Do you write your own songs ?

I've been getting my own material together too, the first part of my debut album is to be recorded in London the week after next, and the second part I will be doing in LA with my producer/ manager John Wooler. I'm really looking forward to it.

17) What's your favourite song/album  of all time ?

As a guitarist my biggest hero was always Jimi Hendrix. I'd sit there and just learned all his songs note for note!
As far as albums go, you could do worse than to listen to Electric Ladyland. To think he made that in the sixties is just mind blowing.
If he was around today he'd still wipe every guitarist alive off the face of the earth. He was that good.
As far as songs go it changes all the time. At the moment it's gratisfaction by the strokes. It's got a kind of Thin Lizzy feel, and I love that.
