4 ans (quasiment jour pour jour) après ma première rencontre avec Dan Smith, me voici de retour à Paris, cette fois ci pour assister au concert de son groupe, désormais mondialement connu, Bastille.
La file d'attente devant le Casino de Paris est impressionnante, même en connaissant la notoriété du groupe en Angleterre et dans le reste de le monde,c est toujours hallucinant de voir que certains fans attendent depuis le début de l'après-midi.
Les portes s'ouvrent à 19h, et le flot de fans déjà surexcités, s'engouffre dans la salle.
J'ai l'occasion alors de discuter avec des personnes qui n'ont jamais vu le groupe sur scène, et qui attendent de voir si les chansons prennent vraiment vie sur scène.
L'album, avec son univers si particulier, leur à tellement plu, que certains doutent que la voix de Dan Smith puisse être aussi parfaite qu'en studio.
Je croise ensuite rapidement Dan Smith, nous n'avons pas le temps de vraiment discuter, puisque nous nous faisons assaillir par des fans très surpris et excités de voir Dan se promener dans la salle ..

et c'est tant mieux pour lui
La première partie est assurée par un groupe américain Grizfolk, qui arrive dès la première chanson, très rock/folk , à chauffer la salle.
Le public est enthousiaste, beaucoup ont l'air de déjà connaitre le groupe, les autres apprécient de suite les chansons très rythmiques et l'énergie du chanteur et des musiciens.
Le groupe à parfaitement rempli son rôle de première partie, l'ambiance dans la salle est excellente.
Une reprise de Praise U (Fatboy Slim) fini ce set en beauté.
Nous enchaînons ensuite assez rapidement avec Bastille, qui commence son set par Bad Blood (première chanson sur l'album) qui est une parfaite intro au reste du concert.
C'est assez impressionnant pour moi , d'entendre le public chanter tout au long du concert, et être si survolté dès les premières notes. La voix de Dan Smith est parfaitement similaire à la version studio des chansons, son énergie est communicative ainsi que sa bonne humeur.
Je remarque qu'il a prit énormément d'assurance en 4 ans, et c'est agréable de voir ses chansons prendre vie, et son univers enfin mis en avant.
Le set continue ensuite avec Weight of Living pt II, et une nouvelle chanson intitulée Blame , qui promet un deuxième album aussi bon que le premier..
Nous continuons avec Laura Palmer, qui devient beaucoup plus rythmique en live, pour le plus grand bonheur des fans, ensuite Poet et Overjoyed , qui donnent des frissons avec la la voix presque cristalline de Dan.
Laughter Lines et These Streets remontent d'un cran l'ambiance , le public continue de chanter à l'unisson, le groupe filme la salle à l'aide d'une caméra qui retransmet directement les images sur un écran , ce qui permet d'encore plus se rendre compte de l'atmosphère qui règne dans le Casino de Paris.
The Silence, Oblivion , et Icarus suivent, Dan monte sur les amplis afin de saluer le public présent au balcon, il y a une vraie communication entre lui et le public, ce qui est très agréable.
Le groupe continu de filmer le public, tout en jouant The Draw, Things we lost in the fire, puis Dan rejoins le public pour chanter Flaws, comme il le fait régulièrement pendant les concerts. Le public est très respectueux, et Dan peut se permettre de rester plus longtemps au milieu de la foule, tout en chantant parfaitement sa chanson.
Dan rappel ensuite qu'il a commencé il y a quelques années, à Paris, et que c'est très impressionnant de revenir en jouant devant une salle comble.
Le rappel commence par Daniel in the Den, qui est pour moi la chanson qui représente le style de Dan, dès les premières notes je le revois, 4 ans auparavant, caché derrière son synthé, vêtu de son pull Les histoires du père Castor ( toute une histoire ce pull)
et qui m'avait directement énormément plu (la chanson, pas le pull)
Nous pouvons ensuite encore nous déchaîner, sur l'excellente reprise de Corona " of the night", le public doit se baisser , accroupis, à la demande du groupe, pendant les couplets puis se lever pendant les refrains, ce qui donne une ambiance très "boite de nuit , années 90"
je dois avouer que cela fait du bien de danser et chanter à tue-tête, une chanson qui, il faut l'avouer on a tous adoré étant ados ..
Le concert se fini par le hit Pompeii, les "hey oh" donnent des frissons, malgré le fait que l'on puisse entendre très souvent la chanson ( a la radio en uk par exemple), on ne peut se lasser de cette mélodie et ces paroles.
La version live est plus que réussit.
Le concert s'est déroulé sans aucune fausse note, tant au niveau des chansons, que de l'ambiance. Le groupe sait vraiment communiquer avec son public, et arranger les chansons pour des versions live excellentes.
J'ai passé un très bon moment, et je suis très impressionnée de voir le chemin parcouru par Dan, qui a su continuer à écrire des chansons propres à son univers, et s'est entouré de bons musiciens qui l'accompagnent parfaitement sur scène.

4 years after i met Dan Smith for the first time in PARIS , while he was playing with my friend Nat Jenkins, im back in the city to see him playing with his now very famous band BASTILLE
The queue in front of the Casino de Paris, is crazy huge, even if the band is now famous in France, i cant help being surprisedto see all these boys and girls waiting for the band since 2pm !!(i used to do it before, when i was young (...), now i arrive at 7pm, because im too tired to wait in the queue, and i like to eat diner before the gig, how sad ^^)
before the gig i meet some girls who didnt have the chance to see the band live before. they are all very excited and they look forward to see the band on stage. they keep saying that they hope Dan's amazing voice sounds the same than on the album
Then i randomly meet Dan , too bad i dont have time to talk to him
because some fans are too excited to take photos with him, or ask for an autograph (i tried, i really tried to talk to him, but how can i fight with someone who s too excited to ask for a photo with DaaaaaaanOmgDaaaan )
Grizfolk -support band
i think its a really good choice, to have them as a support band they play very nice rock/folk music, the crowd is already very excited, all the boys and girls are dancingand singing along (do they already know the songs ? or are they singing "yaourt" as we say in french ? god only knows)
they finish the set with a nice short cover of Praise U by
Fatboy Slim
Now its time for Bastille s gig !!
they start with Bad Blood which is perfect as an intro the atmosphere is already great, we can feel that this gig is gonna be amazing (some girls are screaming so loud that ive almost lost my eardrum)
im very impressed to see the crowd, singing and dancing, Dan Smith s voice is exactly the same as on the album ; as i said before ,i already saw him live, but to be honest its really impressive to see him jumping on stage, and singing at the same time, and still his voice sounds perfect
Then, they played Weight of Living Pt II, and a new song called
Blame, this song confirms that the second album is gonna be as good as the first one ! Laura Palmer sounds very good live, i love the rythme and the energy
Poet and Overjoyed , almost gave me goosebumps, (ok i almost cried, but dont tell anyone, im a little bit too sensitive sometimes)

Laughter Lines and These Streets , the band starts to film the
crowd , so we can see it on the big screen behind them ([quote"i saw my face on the screen and it was amazing"])
they also played The Silence, Oblivion, and Icarus while Dan jumped on the amps to greet some girls at the balcony (and im losing a eardrum agaaaaain)
there s a nice exchange between the crowd and the band and i really
appreciate it

anyway, its very nice to see him singing with all the fans, his voice
still sounds perfect
The encore starts with Daniel in the Den, this song reminds me
the gigs in Paris, in 2010, when i saw him playing for the first time
he was very shy, hidding behing his synths making noises with strange instruments (and wearing funny tshirts but that is another story)
i immediatly loved it ( the song, not the tshirts )
now we can dance on the the amazing cover of Corona 'of the night"
i feel like im 15 again, thanks to bastille
unfortunately it only lasts a few minutes
because then, i start to have painful legs, as the band keeps
asking us to jump/sit/jump/sit
im not 15, im actually 26 and i feel old right now
but oh well, it was great to dance and have fun !
Now its time for Pompeii,as we keep hearing this song on the radio
i though it could be a little bit " boring" to hear it again
but actually it was amazing (yeah im using this word again , its a-m-a-z-i-n-g)
the live version is even better than the album version,
what can i say ? i knew it would be great, as i already loved
the album, and i knew Dan can sing very well on stage but it was even better than i expected, everything was perfect
the songs, the atmosphere, dan's voice, the sound
im very glad to see that Dan still has is own style and he s still the same guy i met 4 years ago, only with more confidence and around 1990 more fans than last time i saw him
i already look forward to seem them again
ps : when i look at the pictures of 2010, i wonder where is the famous flower necklace ? i really hope dan didnt throw it out, it costs me 2 euros
